Welcome to Hin's Takeaway

We're a small family kitchen on Alfreton Road, tucked between the corner shop and the laundrette. Our recipes come from two generations back, passed down through handwritten notebooks and phone calls across continents. What started as cooking for friends and neighbours has grown into something we're quietly proud of.

Most of our regulars order the same thing every week. Some ring us before they leave work. Others knock on the side door if they're passing and ask what's good today. We know your usual order, your spice preference, whether you want extra spring onions. That's how we like to work.

What We Make

Everything's cooked fresh when you order. We prep vegetables each morning, marinate meats overnight, and make our own sauces from scratch. The wok stays hot from opening to close.

The menu covers Cantonese classics and a handful of Malaysian dishes that reflect where the family's from. Char kway teow, hainanese chicken rice, sweet and sour pork that isn't neon red, proper beef rendang that takes four hours to cook down. Vegetarian options aren't an afterthought here either.

How It Works

Ring us or walk in. We don't do apps or websites for ordering, just the phone and the counter. Peak times are Friday and Saturday evenings, so allow an extra fifteen minutes then. Midweek's usually quieter.

Collection's straightforward. We'll give you a time when you order, usually twenty to thirty minutes depending on what you're having. Delivery covers most of Nottingham within a three-mile radius. Minimum order £15 for delivery, £2.50 fee. We take cash or card, both work fine.

Delivery Coverage

We deliver to Radford, Lenton, Hyson Green, Forest Fields, Basford, and parts of the city centre. If you're near the university campuses, you're covered. Further out toward Beeston or Mapperley, it depends on the night and how busy we are. Best to ask when you call.

About the Family

The kitchen's run by Hin and his sister Mei. Their mum helps with prep most days and occasionally takes over the wok when things get hectic. Hin moved to Nottingham in the early 2000s, worked in a few restaurants, then decided to do things his own way.

It's not fancy. The shopfront's small, the seating's just three stools by the window. But the food tastes like someone's actually cooking it, not reheating it. That's the point.

Opening Hours

We're open every day except Tuesdays. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 5pm to 10pm. Friday and Saturday: 5pm to 11pm. Sunday: 4pm to 9:30pm. Bank holidays we're usually open but worth ringing ahead to check.
